It is always hard to wake up and get a news of a tragedy that strikes so close to loved ones and friends. This morning I woke up with a message from a dear friend in Kathmandu, Gokul Thapa about him being in tears as he saw the rubble of his collapsed home after a 7.9 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal near the capital of Kathmandu. Gokul said in a message on his FB page;
"I wish to die, I cannot see this mass distruction in nepal.
Never stop tears, seeing all remains and debris"
I would like to mobilize all of us to help with recovery and relief efforts.
I am planning to leave for Nepal on Tuesday April 28th. And instead of hiking to Basecamp, I will join Gokul and will try to help local agencies and first responders meet survivors' immediate needs for food, fuel, clean water, hygiene products, and shelter.
I will post picture from the ground and share stories of my friends and many local people who I am sure will appreciate the fact that many thousand miles away you are all thinking of them and praying for their recovery. Please wish me a safe and productive journey, even if I am able to help one life with my efforts, it will be worth everything.
"The tragedy of life is often not in our failure, but rather in our complacency; not in our doing too much, but rather in our doing too little; not in our living above our ability, but rather in our living below our capacities."
