Saturday, August 12th will be the 10th annual Cape Cod Bay Challenge, a 30 mile marathon standup paddle to help support Christopher's Haven in Boston. About 50 standup paddle boarders will launch from Scusset Beach in Sagamore at 4:30 am and land in Wellfleet in the afternoon. A journey of 10-12 hours (pray for west wind!) after months of training. This will be my 8th CCBC and I have been training hard this year for the event. This year I was fortunate to be on a trip in July with Kim and the kids to Montana, Wyoming and Idaho. I brought an inflatable board with me to be able to paddle as many days on the trip as possible and scheduled every night stay on a lake. Attached is a photo from Jackson Lake in WY. I also paddled: Salmon Lake, MT; Buffalo Bill Reservoir, WY; Yellowstone Lake, WY a few times; Snake River, WY; Placid Lake, MT; Swan Lake, MT; and Flathead Lake, MT several times. I know this message goes out to many other endurance athletes, so you understand the importance of training for a marathon. Just wanted you to have some insight as to what paddlers of the CCBC go through to make it across the bay. It takes a lot of discipline to be able to rise to the Challenge!
I am honored to be on the CCBC Board of Directors which also makes me a captain for the crossing. I can tell you first hand the personal sacrifice made by each and every one of the paddlers is very substantial. We appreciate your support for these efforts!
Christopher's Haven was founded in 2001 to help children with cancer. It provides comfortable housing and a supportive community for children receiving cancer treatment in Boston. Children come from all over the country to receive multidisciplinary care that includes surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. These daily outpatient treatments can last up to six to eight weeks. Christopher's Haven allows parents to focus on their child's treatment and recovery. Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. Many thanks for your support--and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
