I recently started volunteering for an Antigua-based NGO called Niños de Guatemala, which provides underprivileged children with an education. NDG runs two primary schools and a secondary school wich house over 500 Guatemalan children that would otherwise not have been able to go to school. One of these schools is called Nuestro Futuro in Ciudad Vieja where I am currently volunteering in. I can tell you that the young kiddos we are helping are definitely full of potential and the impact of the NGO on this school in particular is crucial as we, volunteers, provide them with significant support in various areas (English, reading, writing, artistic expression...).
In my case, I am looking to help the NGO get more cash by fundraising at least US$250.00, which is not a lot but can go very far, as shown by a few examples below:
$125 – buys materials for all of our programs (educational and wrap-around) for one student for a year
$15 - feeds a student for a month
$25 – Provides safe drinking water for 429 students for a month
$160 - feeds a student for a full year
$275 – Drinking water for all our schools for the whole year
$20 - English Classes for one student for one year
$45 – Kaqchiquel Classes (Mayan language) for one grade for one month
$40 – English Classes for one grade for one month
$85 – English and Kaqchiquel classes for one grade for one month.
$75 - buys materials for social work and psychology across all of our schools for a month
If yourself or someone you know might be interested in donating a few bucks, it will be greatly appreciated! I can assure you that all funds we receive are well spent (yes, I am the one who updates the balance sheet and P&L).
Here is a quick video to show you what the NGO does: https://vimeo.com/59185298
Cheers and thanks!
