Hi, I'm Kim and this is my story!
In 2009 I ran in the Pittsburgh Marathon relay for the first time and in 2010 I was diagnosed with MS.
The disease came out of nowhere and hit me like a ton of bricks. I didn't know anything about MS and was terrified about what it meant for my future. Since then I've learned a lot! MS affects everyone so differently - some have physical symptoms you can see, others have things they deal with that are 'hidden'. When people find out I have MS I always hear 'but you look completely normal'. I've been very lucky to have discovered the disease and started treatment early on. Since then my symptoms have been minor and under control. I manage these through having a good relationship with my neurologist, monitoring my meds and maintaining a healthy lifestyle (including running!).
While I don't know what the future holds for me with MS, I am incredibly grateful every day for my health and for even being able to participate in something like a half marathon. This will be my second half and I'm super excited that I chose to run for MS this year. My goal is to raise money to support the National MS Society in their continued fight to find a cure, raise awareness and aid folks living with MS.
Any contribution you can make would be awesome and greatly appreciated! I hope that you take just 2 minutes to watch this video. It's a great overview of what MS is, what it does to the body and what folks like me are doing to fight it.
Thank you for donating and taking a minute to read my story!
