BENEFITING: National Multiple Sclerosis Society
EVENT DATE: Oct 14, 2017
I will be running the Hartford Half Marathon on October 14th. Although I have previously run this distance in training, this event will be my first official half marathon. I decided to join Team Finish MS for this event, because of the impact MS has had on my life. Almost two and a half years ago, exactly one day after graduating nursing school, I unexpectedly lost almost all of the vision in my right eye. Multiple doctors appointments, MRIs, and IV steroid infusions later, I was subsequently diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Throughout this process, I have also met many other people living with MS. While there is still much room for improvement, research has led to several effective MS treatment options for the relapsing remitting form of MS. This has enabled me to take medication to hopefully limit future relapses. In the meantime I have regained some but definitely no where near all of the vision lost. However, there is still very little treatment available for people with the primary progressive form of MS, thus requiring much more research be done. I hope to accomplish my goal of completing the half marathon all while raising money for MS research and programs!
