Organized by: Desiree Primus
Not everyone is familiar with the story of the Montford Point Marines. They were absent from American history books and popular culture. I will be creating a children's book on these forgotten Black men who trained at a segregated boot camp at Camp Lejeune, NC. They had to fight two battles: One against discrimination at home, and one against enemy defenders overseas.
The goal, as a former educator, is to tell my father's story. He finally received recognition at age 89 when the Montford Point Marines received the Congressional Medal of Honor as a group. My father, Clifford Primus, will be the subject of a documentary.
I currently have a blog at https://www.montfordpointmarinesandhonor.blogspot.com.
Thank you all for your contributions that will help with publishing an illustrated book and filming a documentary. A portion of the proceeds will go to a Veterans cause.
