The Story

EVENT DATE: Jun 24, 2017

At 11,239 feet, this beautiful cone-shaped volcanic peak is the highest point in the state of Oregon. Mount Hood, located 50 miles east of Portland, is one of the most-climbed glaciated peaks in North America. Unlike many of the Cascade Volcanoes, this is a reasonable one-day climb. If you’re new to the sport, this is the one to try! The program starts with the Basic Snow Climbing Course and culminates on day two with a snow cat ride to the top of Timberline Ski Area and from there, an ascent of Mt. Hood via the South Side Route. This entry-level technical climb requires the use of a rope, crampons and ice axe.

How does it work?

You pay a non-refundable registration fee & agree to fundraise $3,600 to climb Mount Hood. BCM pays your guide fee of $620 (of course you can donate an additional $370 if you want all the funds you raise to go to BCM!). Then you fundraise up to your goal & spread the word about BCM, and go on an awesome climb!

For more information on this trip, including the equipment you need, the itinerary, and more, please see the Mount Hood page on the Big City Mountaineers' website.
