For years, Laurelhurst students and neighbors have made the best of the school's playground - which admittedly is just an asphalt parking lot. After countless skinned knees and elbows, stitches and broken bones, we're ready for a change.
Laurelhurst school's lack of adequate play and sports facilities reduces our kids opportunities to play, be active and benefit from a full physical education curriculum. Laurelhurst students, parents and staff have joined forces to transform our beloved neighborhood school grounds from the parking lot it is today, to a wonderful multi-sport and creative play area.
- 19,000 ftsq. Turf mutli-sport field - providing a soft, safe space for our kids and families to play a variety of games and sports, from tag to t-ball.
- 6,000 ftsq. Covered area - a covered outdoor play area is a common feature among most other PPS schools. Providing year round shade and shelter, this greatly increases physical educational and outdoor recess options for our kids.
- 400 ftsq. Creative play stage - a unique, portable and low cost feature that encourages creative play for kids of all ages and interests.
The Laurelhurst PTA, students, staff and parent organizing committee have collaborated to plan, design and implement this transformation with a goal of completing the project before the end of 2016.
