“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

God is doing just that. Being a Sophomore in college, taking 18 units, maintaining above a 3.5 GPA, staying healthy and being heavily involved in theatrical and film productions, one would think I have little time for anything else. I aim to live by faith daily, sharing God's love in every environment I'm thrown into while making time to discover God deeply for myself. I've been called to help lead a Black Campus Ministry Bible Study while being consistently involved with my favorite community at my university, InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. I grew up in a very diverse city and am faithfully involved in numerous clubs such as the African Student Union and Social Dance Club. I hope to use my gifts of flexibility and sociability to minister to God's children in the slums of Bangkok, Thailand this summer.

Some of you may know that I was miraculously blessed to go to St. Louis, Missouri in December to attend the Urbana Missions Conference. I simply prayed and listened to God's calling for my winter break and obeyed His guidance that I should attend the conference. I honestly had no clue how I would afford to go on the trip, but through faith and prayer, God provided everything I needed literally less than 24 hours after I made a fundraising page. That conference completely altered my commitment and understanding of the importance in living for Jesus. My life will never be the same and I am endlessly thankful and excited for the life God has planned for me. I know nothing is impossible with Jesus by my side.

At Urbana I felt a pull on my heart that my next “big step” was to do missionary work in Bangkok, Thailand with the InterVarsity Global Urban Trek. I am completely putting my faith in God that I will receive enough prayer and funding to go on this life changing adventure, and this is where you come in! Both a donation and prayer will be equally appreciated and effective in sending me to Thailand this summer. The cost will cover my passport, plane tickets, food, and living accommodations from June 18th until August 2nd. Please pray and listen deeply to how God may want to use you as a blessing to myself and the people of Bangkok.

We are called to proclaim the Good News to the poor, proclaim freedom to the prisoners and set the oppressed free. There is no greater joy or fulfillment than doing the works of Christ. There is no better path than the one He has paved for you. He is limitless, omnipotent, and knows your deepest desires. He knows you better than you know yourself. Don't waste time on temporary satisfaction when the Creator is present and offering you eternal life. I pray that not only God stirs your heart to help send me to Thailand, but I pray that he stirs your heart to gain the discipline to seek Him in every step of your life. Through Jesus Christ, you are equipt to do the impossible; there will be undeniable greatness and victory by His side. Dare to be vulnerable, and courageous. Dare to explore and intimately know your Creator and challenge yourself daily to live a bit more holy. Everyone has their own journey, everyone has their own struggles and fears, yet Jesus KNOWS you, and LOVES you, so so much.

In Depth Description from the Global Urban Trek Page: “Walk alongside the poor and marginalized in the mega-cities of the developing world and begin to understand how God can transform lives and urban settings. Bangkok is a city of contrasts.  More than most cities, extreme wealth and extreme poverty live side by side. Slums and skyscrapers sit next door to each other in some instances.  Twelve million people reside in Bangkok, making it the largest city in mainland Southeast Asia. Over 1000 slum communities house between one and two million people. Multinational corporations have major offices and headquarters here.  Bangkok is not only the capital of Thailand, but the financial, commercial, cultural, and transportation hub of Southeast Asia. It is also the hub of sex trafficking for Southeast Asia and perhaps the world.

In the past, we have lived alongside the poor in the Klong Toey Slum community on the south east side of Bangkok.  We will live with families and work at House of New Life (Baan Chivit Mai) serving with at-risk youth, physically and mentally handicapped adults, and children.  We also hope to partner with Samaritan Creations in their ministry in the red-light district working with women trapped in the sex-slave industry.  We will also be working with The Ruth Center, a ministry serving the needs of the elderly in a slum community in Bangna. We will also be partnering with a new ministry site with Word Made Flesh in Bangkok, who works with children at risk on the streets of Bangkok.  Finally, we will likely work in the Leprosy Community, being amidst those whose bodies have been ravaged by Leprosy and the families that struggle to care for them.  Language learning will be part of our ministry of relationship-building over the course of our summer in Bangkok. Each site will have unique schedules and challenges; our main goal is to be among the poor, to learn from them, and to partner with those who have been ministering in Bangkok for decades.”
