BENEFITING: COMMUNITY SERVICES UNLIMITED
For my 31st birthday I've decided to give a gift instead... but I need your help.
I'll be working far away from home on my birthday this year, so I've decided to give up my whole "birthday month" completely. No presents, no party, no cake, no cocktails (okay, maybe a cocktail). For those of you that know me, you know that I LOVE my birthday, so this is a pretty big deal.
Here's where you come in:
Instead of buying me a gift, or even an overpriced drink in a crowded bar, I'm asking you to donate that money to a better cause. "What cause could possibly be worth going another whole year without seeing your name in icing!?" you ask?
Community Services Unlimited is a nonprofit organization in south central LA dedicated to promoting healthy lifestyles for children and families in their community. That's the one liner. In reality, they are so much more than that. CSU runs community and school garden programs in an area of LA that previously lacked any access to real, organic, good food. They provide a low cost produce stand every day of the week, with healthy prepared food and organic produce from their urban mini farm in the heart of the city. They do workshops on everything from gardening basics and fruit tree maintenance to how to cook brussel sprouts. I could go on and on, but if you'd like to know more, you'll click around on the website a bit. It's pretty inspiring. http://www.csuinc.org/
So, here's the pitch:
Over the past few years, I've worked with this little nonprofit and watched them continue to do more and more amazing things. I can only imagine the great things they'll do with our help.
I'm setting a goal of $3100 since it's my 31st birthday, but I know together we can surpass that goal.
So, dig deep, people. This is important.
And in return, you will receive buckets... no, barrels... no, something bigger than barrels, full of my most heartfelt gratitude and you'll also get that little happy feeling inside that comes from knowing you helped a bunch of people.
*If you were thinking, "Meh, I wasn't going to get you a birthday present anyway, so I'm off the hook, right?" The answer is "No." and "Pretty please?"
