Mittens for Detroit is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that collects, purchases, and distributes new mittens and gloves to children, teens, and adults in Detroit, Michigan and other nearby underserved communities. Public collection of pairs occurs from October through January each year. The pairs are then processed by volunteers in The Big Sort events, and then picked up by the nearly 100 distribution partners. Other communities served include Hamtramck, Highland Park, and the refuge children in Dearborn.
This year is marks our 10th Anniversary, and since our start in 2010, more than one-quarter million pairs have been collected and distributed - because of the remarkable kindness and generosity of people in the community.
