BENEFITING: AVENUES FOR HOMELESS YOUTH
EVENT DATE: Jun 24, 2017
I'm heading to Minneapolis in a couple of weeks for the Pull for Pride Event at The Movement Mineapolis. Anyone who has ever trained with me knows that the deadlift is my least favorite of all of the lifts, and yet here I am signed up for a deadlift-only competition. I don't plan on winning anything, but I definitely plan on having a fun day of lifting heavy things with great people to benefit an important cause. The competition is being held with the Women's Strength Coalition: a non-profit organization that seeks to encourage women to get under the barbell and experience the benefits of training for strength. They host inclusive powerlifting and weightlifting events to benefit worthy, yet underserved, organizations that strengthen the community in other ways. This particular event is raising money to benefit Avenues for Homeless Youth: Avenues provides housing, basic needs, and the supportive services youth need to achieve their dreams. All of Avenue’s youth have access to onsite education, career, mental health and nursing supports. It’s these supports, and a dedicated, trauma-informed staff that help homeless youth truly move from surviving to thriving.
It's necessary work and a little bit goes a long way. Please don't make me deadlift all day for naught.
