Dear Friends and Family,
I'm running the NYC Marathon this year in support of Minding Your Mind. MYM is a charity that works with schools and other social institutions to ensure that kids who may be struggling with psychological issues know that help is available. MYM focuses on education, seeking to remove the stigma that, sometimes, unfortunately, still attaches to mental illness. My friends, Amy and Steven Erlbaum, founded MYM in Philadelphia and work tirelessly to expand its impact. Many of us have had friends or relatives (including members of our close families) who have dealt with mental issues. I am delighted (and honored) to be able to support MYM.
I've set an ambitious fundraising goal: $3,500. I welcome contributions of any amount, and I so appreciate your support. My running this marathon is one way that I'll be celebrating my 60th birthday, which is one week before the race. This will be my fourth marathon, and my first in my "hometown." (I was born at King's County Hospital in Brooklyn and lived the first ten years of my life in Bensonhurst, before we moved "upstate" to a small town in the Catskill mountains.) I will provide periodic reports on my training, and a race report in November.
Thank you for your support
