BENEFITING: MILE IN MY SHOES
EVENT DATE: Oct 01, 2017
With so many organizations one can run to fundraise for one may be wondering why I chose Mile In My Shoes (MIMS) and why should you support me on this effort. MIMS is a running group first established four years ago, by Miska Vertin and Mike Jurasits. Based in homeless shelters and transitional housing MIMS runs with the simple mission of running together to change perceptions and lives and to make life long runners. MIMS began its first two years by partnering with Catholic Charities Higher Ground. Last year the MIMS added Youthlink, a group that works with homeless youth. This year the group doubles once again adding those in the Volunteer of American community reentry program, a program that helps those recently incarcerated successfully reenter the community and Sarah’s Oasis, housing for homeless women who have no resources.
Ever since I started running with MIMS last year I was hooked. I knew that this is a special group. You see, MIMS doesn’t care if your 20 years old or 63 years old, male or female. We don’t care if you just got out of prison or if you just came to the States hoping for a better life. We only care that you are human. We accept you no matter where you are in your life journey and what you have. We accept you with open arms and hugs ready to give. Side by side we run to live out our mission and change the perceptions of the community around us. This is why I run with MIMS and this is why I ask you to support me in my fundraising.
