Following the success of V-Day Taconic 2015 at Taconic Correctional Facility and Cherry Lane Theater, Mightee Shero Productions is presenting V-Day Taconic 2016, as part of V-Day’s global One Billion Rising campaign to end violence against women and girls.
V-Day Taconic 2016 will include a tour of Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues at women’s and men’s prisons across New York, kicking off at Taconic Correctional Facility and culminating at Edgecombe Residential Treatment Facility. Mid-week, we’ll visit our home Off-Broadway at Cherry Lane Theatre to raise funds for STEPS to End Family Violence and Reentry Rocks, an organization founded by V-Day Taconic alumna Sharon Richardson. Reentry Rocks uses creative programming to nurture formerly incarcerated women who have histories of domestic violence to obtain employment and housing, heal from their past, rebuild their lives, and become leaders in their community.
All performances will feature an inclusive cast of formerly incarcerated women, professional actresses, and activists. V-Day Taconic 2016 is directed by Ira Kip (The 6 Project, Culture Project). Born and raised in Amsterdam The Netherlands with roots based in Aruba, Curacao and Suriname, Ira wrote and directed the groundbreaking play She’Baltimore, investigating domestic violence between same sex couples, pioneering an often unspoken conversation within the LGBTQ community.
The tour will reach full capitalization at $30,000. Any additional money will be donated as seed funding to Sharon Richardson’s nonprofit start-up, Reentry Rocks.
Your donations will help fund production expenses, including:
- $100 will cover photography for one day
- $200 will cover two meals for the entire cast on a show day
- $300 will cover program printing for the benefit event
- $500 will cover round trip bus transportation to one correctional facility for the entire cast and crew
- $1,000 will cover one cast member’s entire production salary, including health insurance
