Day 4 - Our final day, for now
June 28, 2017
BENEFITING: SEA TURTLES FOREVER
EVENT DATE: Jun 24, 2017
I've arrived at that point in life when I can say, "when I was a kid..." When I was the kid the sand was clean and pristine all along the Pacific Coast. I grew up spending my vacation days in Manzanita, Oregon. Today, I bring my children there and we frolic among the dunes and play in the waves and avoid the increasing amounts of microplastic that litter the beach. Until now...
There's a solution for removing this plastic. Marc Ward of Sea Turtles Forever has developed a unique techonology that efficiently removes even the smallest bits of plastic. He's ready to go. Our volunteers are awaiting our call. All we need is donor support.
This is our third year working on Neahkhanie Beach. We've been able to do this with the support of generous donors. We have streamled our process and now it costs $300/day to run an operation on the beach. Our goal is to do 6 days this year. 6 days will get us beyond the entry to the beach that we've covered the last two years. It will get us to the streams that flow into the ocean. The streams where the children play. These streams are surrounded by the plastic this year. Think super clean sand. Think safe spots for campfires. Think healthy sand for the pups to play in.
