BENEFITING: Find the Cause Breast Cancer Foundation
Can you think of anyone you know who has not been touched by breast cancer? As a clinical researcher, I have worked on international breast cancer studies, and like many of you, breast cancer has touched my life in a very personal way. Until last fall, I did not identify myself as a runner. I am an entrepreneur, singer, very average (but enthusiastic) dancer and a pretty good down hill skier. Then, in support of a rare disease charity in November 2016, I completed the NYC marathon. When recounting the thrill of crossing the finish line with a friend, he suggested I do Boston and offered me a bib for Art beCause, a breast cancer charity, and I could not refuse. I was raised to be strong and take on any challenge; and though a marathon is a huge challenge, it is not comparable to the battle against cancer. I am running the Boston marathon in memory of my Mom’s best friend, Heather, who lost her valiant fight, and in honor of my friend who is a thriving survivor. My friend, also named Heather, is stronger and braver than any superhero of my childhood. When she was fighting for her life, she enchanted her nurses and comforted her children by attending her chemo treatments decked out in a Wonder Woman outfit. Please support me, as I run for my Heathers, all the male and female superheroes currently fighting the disease, and the researchers at Art beCause, so we all can take bold steps toward a cure!!
