MILES FOR MARTIN 2014!
Thanks so much for stopping by my fundraising page. I run the Boston Marathon each year to support Mass General Hospital's pediatric oncology services in honor and memory of a dear friend, Martin Duffy, who was a Boston Marathon legend. From 1970 until 2009, he ran the Boston Marathon every year - 40 in all - in every kind of weather imaginable: heat, wind, rain. And in every kind of shape imaginable, too: he was a 2:40 marathoner in his prime, but hobbled through one Boston with, of all things, a broken bone in his foot. He was tough, determined, and loved the Boston Marathon. And in 2009, he ran his last - and hardest - marathon - because he had just started chemotherapy treatments for cancer at MGH. The doctors there worked miracles to prolong his life as long as they could. Martin slipped away to that great marathon course in the sky in late November 2010. This will be my fourth consecutive Boston in his honor - my third with MGH.
Please consider a gift of any amount to support our efforts to raise one million dollars for MGH's pediatric oncology services. Blessings to you and I will see you on Boylston Street on April 21!

Since 1998, with the partnership of John Hancock Financial, the Mass General Marathon Team has raised nearly $9 million to support the pediatric hematology-oncology program at MassGeneral Hospital forChildren (MGHfC). Funds raised are directed to cancer care and research initiatives that enhance the quality of life for the hospital’s youngest cancer patients.
MGHfC has put these funds to good use advancing cutting-edge research, increasing the number of clinical studies to improve cure rates and providing the best treatment possible to pediatric cancer patients. But MGHfC is also focused on the quality of life of its young patients and their families. The marathon program also supports child life activities such as art and music therapy and support services for parents and siblings of patients.
We are grateful for the hard work of all of our runners and the dedication of their family and friends as they go through this historic journey.
The 2014 marathon is going to be one of the most historic 26.2 mile runs ever and we are honored to be a part of it. We appreciate your support. MGH Strong!
