The Story

When you donate to the METRO YOUTH YMCA, you make METRO DETROIT better through programs focused on:

Afterschool Care: $500 provides 1 year of Afterschool Care

According to the office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, children are more likely to engage in drug use, sexual activity and crime from 3 to 7 pm, in those precious hours after school. The Y provides kids with safe, constructive learning environments through its before and after school programs. By engaging youth in exercise activities like soccer, basketball and baseball, as well as providing nutritious food and learning opportunities, parents can go to work and school with a peace of mind, knowing their children are safe, healthy and happy.

Summer Youth Employment: $2250 provides a week long college experience for 3 teens

The Y equips students in Metro Detroit with real-world skills to prepare them for life as adults. Through this program, students ages 14 and over receive career training and are given local internship opportunities. Summer jobs help youth build confidence, learn budgeting and develop time management skills. Volunteers and staff in the program challenge youth to be professional, responsible and to have integrity. The program also provides financial literacy to help students learn how to be financially responsible in the future.

I Can Achieve: $1500 provides 10 teens in I Can Achieve program

I Can Achieve is a college and career preparation program that allows students to live, play, work, lead and succeed. Students attend monthly college tours, career workshops, health and wellness activities and participate in community service projects. The program is available for 9th through 12th grade students throughout Metro Detroit.
