Melanie Cruz's Fundraiser:

As a minority professional, I’ve been given an amazing opportunity ― to join the Multicultural Development International Leadership Institute for a Leadership Development trip to Brazil this fall. This experience will help me to obtain a working knowledge of the cultural dynamics that shape the diverse populations I serve.

As an employee of the Capital District YMCA, I am a facilitator for The Darkness to Light child sexual abuse prevention program. This training program is one way I help build strong communities, by protecting children.

My association is committed to training 5% of the adults in our diverse communities to be more aware of and help prevent child abuse using this training program. I am proud to help with these efforts.

One of the most important aspects of building a global community is giving young people and adults opportunities to understand and celebrate diversity. The Y helps people develop cultural competencies and key skills to collaborate with their peers around the world.
