Mayo Performing Arts Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, presents a wide range of programs that entertain, enrich, and educate the diverse population of the region and enhance the economic vitality of Northern New Jersey.
Guided by this mission, MPAC presents a diversity of events on its Main Stage each season including contemporary and classical music, jazz, world music, theatre, dance, comedy, lectures and more, drawing 137,000 people from all 21 counties in NJ, as well as from NY, PA, CT and beyond. MPAC is also a leading performing arts educator in the state, serving over 40,000 students through onsite classes, educational performances, in-school residencies, outreach programs in underserved communities, arts achievement recognition programs and more. MPAC fulfills its nonprofit mission while generating over $15 million in revenue for local businesses.
MPAC is seeking support at this time to help underwrite staff member salaries and the costs of new virtual programs from March through June 2020, the months for which MPAC had to cancel or postpone all events thereby eliminating any earned revenue as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. Your gift will help enable MPAC staff to continue their work, curating virtual performances, presenting original performances and continuing education classes online to entertain, educate and uplift our community.
As of 3/12/20, MPAC closed the Theatre to protect the health and safety of our community. Staff members began working remotely to cancel and reschedule all performances and other onsite activities through the end of May (possibly longer), as well as launch a fundraising plan to help bridge a period of little earned income. Staff members have responded to the crisis by pursuing innovative ways for MPAC to carry out its mission at a time when people need the outlet of the arts the most. MPAC is now providing free virtual performances and continuing education courses online.
