BENEFITING: WATER FOR SOUTH SUDAN
Hello, my name is Maya. I am 11 and in 7th grade. I found a book called "A Long Walk To Water" which I recommend for everyone. The story is a true story about 2 kids living in South Sudan in different time periods, same age(11), and same struggles. After reading this book, it inspired me to do more research on the topic of South Sudan. Through my research I found out that the lack of clean water gets many people of Sudan sick, especially young children and elders. The children walk for 8 hours or more to fill a small jug with the contaminated water, drink it and catch diseases. The road to the water is very dangerous . Can you imagine not having any water to drink? Or dying from the water you drink? Water for Sudan provides clean, safe water. They educate the people and drill wells to provide water. After doing research, I didn't want to just sit down and play video games mindlessly but I wanted to do something. I didn't want to leave poor kids suffering. So I decided to create this fundraiser to raise $1000 for water for the strong people of South Sudan. Since I'm not just going to ask for money, I am "donating" my birthday. This means that I'm not going to ask for ANY presents but ask for donations instead. Thank you for taking your time for reading about my Birthday Jug of Water Project.
