BENEFITING: MANHATTAN LEGAL SERVICES
EVENT DATE: May 21, 2016
On one of the richest islands in the world, 85% of Manhattan Legal Services (MLS) clients live on less than $15,000 year. We fight poverty and seek economic, social and racial justice for low-income borough residents through the provision of free legal representation, systemic advocacy and community education. Each year, MLS’s advocates represent and advise thousands of low income residents of Manhattan facing crises with basic needs.
Our team of 12 advocates will be running to raise money for translation equipment, metrocards and prepaid calling cards The metrocards will make if possible for our clients to come to our office and attend court appearances. The calling cards will allow our clients to stay in touch with the office.
And, for the many non-English speaking clients who require translation services, our office will also be able to buy translation equipment so that we can host group meetings and provide community education in multiple languages.
