BENEFITING: Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers

EVENT: South Carolina 2017

EVENT DATE: Sep 15, 2017

Cecile King

Friday September 15 I am joining my fellow employees at Lexington Medical Center by participating in the 5K Tunnel To Towers event and "following in the footsteps" of Stephen Siller, to raise money for First Responders and our Military forces. We all remember where we were on 9/11 and my family was deeply affected this day. One of my sisters was in the city and walked through the soot and ash. We all feared for her and were relieved when she was okay. So many died that day and as we remember we also remember we are blessed. As my sister shared her feelings about that day with us, it stands out to me that no only was she fearful but also hopeful from the response by all around her. The day that my son William went to the hospital, was put on a respirator and later died, it was a first responder from Horry County that tracked me down in another state to let me know of his situation - what a hard job that must be for them. A friend and now retired Myrtle Beach Police Officer, lost her son who was a fireman to domestic violence. Her other son, also a firefighter and friend to my son Jason serves in Horry County. So I walk in honor of them. When we need them and even when we don't want the news to be true, First Responders provide a never ending service and do it with such giving and grace. How can we not support them? Our military serves in ways we can not even imagine. My dad, like so many WWII vets, would rarely speak of his service and only said there were things that happened that were just unspeakable. My husband, retired National Guard, gave countless hours of service. Both blessings in my life, I will walk in memory of my dad and in honor of my husband. So for all of these that have personally touched my life and for the countless others that serve for us I am asking you to join me in helping me reach a fundraising goal of $500. No gift is too small.
