Dear friend,

I am greeting you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. I hope you are doing well; we are all doing well as well. Can you believe it has been two years since I was there in Colorado? Do you remember when Burundi went through a fire tragic and you were among the people who made a difference to the hearts of many local people here in Burundi? When I meet with the people who were helped from the fundraising at Liberty Common High School they are always thankful for what you did for them and also I myself am thankful for that.

These last few years have been years of disastrous events. First the burning of the largest market in Burundi and second, this year was the year of troublesome election and a lot of people fled the country to nearby countries such as Rwanda, Congo, Tanzania and Uganda. But now I thank God that peace is being restored. I believe that your prayers are the ones that have restored peace in the country of Burundi. Thank you for praying for Burundi. It has been two months since I graduated from Kigali International Community School (an American School with an American system) in Rwanda. I have had the opportunities such as being a participant in the KICS Drama Production, and being a leader and a member in Young Life. I have been able to go to Kenya for a volunteering service at TUMAINI (home for orphans which means believe) for two months. I taught lower grades mathematics and taught First Aid Menu for a week in preparation for furthering my studies (University studies).

I applied to several universities and I have been accepted to four: University of British Columbia in Canada, Trinity Christian College in Chicago, Oklahoma Christian University in Oklahoma and Kenya Methodist University in Kenya. Although I received some scholarships from the North American universities, they were unfortunately not enough to allow me to attend as a foreigner. I have chosen to attend Kenya Methodist University (KMU) because it is less expensive compared to the other three universities.

Another benefit of attending KeMU is that I will be entering directly into a 6-year medical program; which is equivalent to an MD from an American medical school. Kenya abides with the British System and does not require completion of a pre-med program before entry into medical school. Tuition each year is $5710, including room and board. I am asking that you considering supporting me financially in accomplishing my dreams to help Burundi.

It has been hard for me to make the decision about KeMU. My vision is to be the first neurosurgeon in Burundi. And some people have said and advised me to take another road that is easy but actually there is no vision that is easy to accomplish. They have told me I should major in something that is less expensive or few years of study or I should came back into French system in Burundi that takes 8 years to finish. What they don’t understand is the passion that I have in my heart, how horrible it is for a whole nation to have NOT EVEN 1 neurosurgeon.

In fact they are doing the contrary; they are now encouraging me because I am feeling, bonding to my vision and believing more that I am going to be the neurosurgeon that Burundi needs.

I thank God for my parents, my siblings and even friends who have encouraged me so far. I believe that you are the person to stand with me during these endeavors. We have set up this CrowdRise account so that it is easy to contribute even a small amount. It is set up through the non-profit Mahoro Inc, so all donations will be tax deductible. We have already raised $1350 towards my tuition, but still need an additional $4,360 for this academic year. This would be accomplished if 218 people contribute $20!

Please consider giving even a little, which will become part of something big!
