BENEFITING: LOWER EAST SIDE GIRLS CLUB
ORGANIZER: LOWER EAST SIDE GIRLS CLUB
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
Hi friends and family!! I am so excited to say that I will be running in the NYC Marathon this November with the Lower East Side Girls Club. LESGC’s mission is to break the cycle of local poverty by training the next generation of ethical, entrepreneurial and environmental leaders. LESGC offers low-income girls and their families a safe place for programs in the arts, sciences, leadership, entrepreneurship, and wellness. Before 1996, inner city turmoil hit the Lower East Side hard, and services and clubs for boys were the only ones available. As a result, girls and their families were left with no resources. Women have accomplished so much over the years, but we still have a ways to go. I want to raise money to help those who are full of potential, but do not have the means to discover that. Personally, having the opportunity to play a sport growing up shaped me into the person I am today. It gave me confidence, discipline, and most importantly, access to an amazing education from Colgate University. All people, especially children and young adults, should have the opportunity to a well-rounded education, and be able to experience extra-curricular activities, regardless of their family’s personal background and status. I have pledged to raise $3,000 as funding for these girls and their families, through LESGC. This organization and marathon is special to me for so many reasons that I won’t bore you with, but mostly I hope through the race, I can set an example for these girls to set their goals and dreams high. I would be incredibly grateful for the support of friends and family in helping me reach my fundraising goal. Thank you so so much!!
