In December 2017, Artistic Director Sadie Weinberg set out to create a dance company in northwest San Diego county. She wanted to present her own work as well as collaborate with other choreographers both in the region and across the globe who were creating poignant work relevant to today's. Most of all she wanted to bring high-quality contemporary dance to north San Diego county.
Today LITVAKdance is an up-and-coming all-female company that performs throughout San Diego county. In our first year and a half, LITVAKdance has achieved many milestones. We won third place in the Temecula Front and Main Dance Festival and secured several grants with both public municipalities such as the Cities of Encinitas and Carlsbad and the California Arts Council and private foundations such as the Walter M Milford Charitable Foundation and the Leichtag Foundation. In addition to presenting four full-length performances to full houses, we have been involved in over thirty performances in spaces both big and small, indoor and outdoor, public and private. Some of our public events have included performances at the LUX Art Institute, Oceanside Museum of Art and the La Jolla Historical Society. We have also hosted several workshops and a weekly contemporary dance class, all open to the public.
NW San Diego our home; we live here, we teach here, we work here, we were educated here, and we want to give back to our communities through the stories we tell with our moving bodies.
