It's our first Halloween with our new baby son and I want to bring the tradition of giving and helping others along with participating in a fun holiday. I grew up trick or treating for UNICEF and was extremely proud to do so. I want my son to understand that while the world isnt fair, and that people are in need, we do have the power to pitch in and do our part. This goes beyond Halloween, or any holiday, and is a core value I want him to have. Now that I am a parent, I can understand and see how a child comes into your life and brings so much joy. They teach us in so many ways; how to be patient, how to see the world from a different light, how to love unconditionally and how to have purpose and determination. But as a parent who (thank goodness) has not had any severe circumstances or hardships happen to us, I cannot begin to understand how painful and heartbreaking it would be if I could not make sure my child is safe, or that their basic fundamental needs cannot be met. I give because I understand safety, good health and prosperity and that is what I want to share with others. Through UNICEF it is how our family can give our support.
