Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the Legal Aid Society has made the hard decision to postpone
our premier fundraiser, the annual Duck Derby, and Family Fun Fest, which was originally
scheduled for June 6, 2020. A new date will be released in the coming weeks. Until then, please
see our GoFundMe page, listed below, which will allow us to maintain our fight against
Domestic Violence in our local communities during these especially stressful times.
The Duck Derby and Family Fun Fest have been an exciting annual Spring event for the Lubbock
area for the last several years. We have food, bounce houses, yard games, and best of all, a Duck
Race of thousands of rubber ducks down the Buddy Holly Creek. Over the years, we’ve given
away many great prizes for “winning ducks” including cruises, vacations, and bikes for the
children! It’s a great way for the Legal Aid staff to get out with the community, and any profits
made help us in our fight for the victims of domestic violence.
The Legal Aid Society began as a pro bono effort of the Lubbock County Bar Association
sometime after World War II. Since that time in 14 South West counties, LAS handles over
1600 cases each year, 70% of which are for domestic violence or sexual assault victims. We are
