BENEFITING: THOMAS G LABRECQUE FOUNDATION
ORGANIZER: THOMAS G LABRECQUE FOUNDATION
On November 6, I will be running the 2016 TCS New York City Marathon in order to raise money for Run As One, a joint fundraising initiative between the Thomas G. Labrecque Foundation and LUNGevity, non-profit organizations dedicated to preventing lung cancer through research and awareness. I am very excited to participate in this event, and hope that my hard work and dedication will help me cross the finish line, BUT, I need your help.
In order to participate in the Marathon, I have made a commitment to raise at least $3,000 for Run As One. I am asking friends and family to consider sponsoring me for this event and would greatly appreciate your kind consideration by making a donation toward this goal. All donations are, of course, tax deductible.
Lung cancer remains the leading cancer killer among both men and women in the United States. Many don’t realize that more than 60 percent of people newly diagnosed with lung cancer have never smoked or have quit smoking. Over 50 percent of new lung cancer cases will be diagnosed at a very late stage—Stage IIIb or IV—when treatment options are limited. Only five percent of those diagnosed will live more than five years after diagnosis! This could be prevented if an early detection tool was available, and continued research is the key.
To this end, the Labrecque Foundation and LUNGevity remain committed to spreading lung cancer awareness in order to end the stigmas associated with the disease, knowing that greater understanding will bring increased funding. Medical research has enabled women to survive breast cancer and men to survive prostate cancer. The same can be done for lung cancer patients, but only with increased awareness and a greater commitment to funding for critical research.
Many of us know people that are currently suffering from or have succumbed to lung cancer. For me, it was Thomas Lebrecque with whom I had the privilege to work at Chase Manhattan Bank. For my wife, it was a dear family friend. I am proud to run in their memory and to support research for this terrible disease. I hope you will please join me in supporting this very important cause!
To support me via credit card, you may donate directly on this site. To make a donation by check, please make checks out to “TGL Foundation” and mail to me at my address: 100 Reade St., Apt 5D, New York, New York 10013. I will send all checks I receive to the Foundation in batches.
Thank you in advance for your support!
