BENEFITING: THOMAS G LABRECQUE FOUNDATION
ORGANIZER: THOMAS G LABRECQUE FOUNDATION
On November 6, I will be running the 2016 TCS New York City Marathon in order to raise money for Run As One, a joint venture between the Thomas G. Labrecque Foundation and LUNGevity, non-profit organizations dedicated to preventing lung cancer through research and awareness. I have made a commitment to raise a minimum of $3000 for this particular cause that I hold close to my heart.
Earlier this year, my mother was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer. She has lived a healthy, active life style and is a lifelong non-smoker. She is currently undergoing treatment. I am running this marathon in her honor.
Most people do not know that 60% of newly diagnosed lung cancer cases are of people who have never smoked or have quit smoking. Lung cancer is responsible for the most cancer deaths for both men and women, more than breast, prostate, colorectal cancers and melanoma combined. However, it receives the least amount of funding per death, only $1,829 compared to $23,474 for breast cancer. Over 50% of new cases are diagnosed at a very late stage - Stage III or IV, when treatment options are limited. The 5-year survival rate at those stages is less than 15%, while the 5-year survival rate for breast cancer has reached 88%. This could be prevented if early detection tools were available. Lung cancer is a battle, but together we can fight it.
All donations are tax deductible and will be going directly to the Thomas G. Labrecque Foundation and LUNGevity. To learn more visit their websites at tglfoundation.com and LUNGevity.org. If you want to donate by check, please make checks payable to "TGL Foundation" and either give to me or mail to me at 390 Hooper St 6E, Brooklyn, NY 11211. I will send all checks I receive to the Thomas G. Labrecque Foundation directly.
Thank you for supporting me and this wonderful cause!
