BENEFITING: Peoples Conservatory
The People’s Conservatory (TPC) fosters high level arts creation, study and performance in an effort to promote cultural awareness and impact positive social change. As professional artist educators of color, we help young artists reveal their talents by facilitating experiences that focus on personal growth and self discovery. TPC’s arts curriculum incorporates a wide range of teachings rooted in ethnic and cultural studies, bolstering our students’ inherent artistic voices to make them the next generation of culture keepers. Our credo at TPC is that we are “for the people, about the people and by the people” with a dedicated focus on Black and Brown youth from historically marginalized and economically blighted communities who are often denied awareness of and access to higher arts education.
TPC directly serves over 2000 students at over a dozen East Bay school sites through fully-integrated day school arts programming, afterschool arts academies, weekend programming, one-day workshops, teacher trainings, and school showcases. Like many arts organizations TPC has recently found itself in a particular adverse financial situation due to Covid-19. Most of our work is facilitated on site in schools, thus the shelter in place ordinance immediately brought our services to a complete halt. Although we acted quickly and made an immediate shift to move our school services to a digital online format ensuring that our community stayed supported, we are still suffering financially. Not all of our schools have had the ability to continue to pay out their contracts and day by day we continue to lose more funding. Additionally we have lost thousands of dollars in workshops, performances, and professional development training fees. Our artists continue to work tirelessly to support our arts students and desperately need to stay afloat and continue to earn a living wage. We need your support TODAY. With your donation we can expand our services to youth all over the world through our new platform TPC University--a robust online arts experience for ages 5 to 105. TPC University will allow us to increase our presence and give more and more youth and adults access to high level, culturally relevant arts classes, not to mention keep our artists employed. Your support will also help us to fund our next production of "KOLA: An Afro Diasporic Remix of the Nutcracker," an iconic coming of age story told through the lens of Black and Latinx music, dance and culture. Give $25 or more today and you will receive a special gift--a digital download or stream of our recent debut KOLA performance!
