BENEFITING: Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County, Inc.
EVENT DATE: May 01, 2016
I'm running my first full marathon on May 1st--the OC Marathon. One of the perks of all the training is feeling like I have more freedom in eating what I want (dreaming of a treat as I'm running 13+ miles helps me to keep going!). However, I am very conscious that there are many people who are unable to get even their basic food needs met each day. So, I'd like to combine the milestone of running my first marathon with raising money for the Second Harvest Food Bank. This year has been declared the 'Year of Mercy' by the pope, which is also spurring me on to make some extra effort to have my marathon help others.
If you are interested in learning more about Second Harvest Food Bank, please visit this website: http://feedoc.org/AboutUs.aspx.
****Crowdrise, the site I'm using to fundraise, takes 3% of the donations in exchange for their service. Whatever amount I am able to raise, I plan on making up that 3% by making an additional donation directly to Second Harvest Food Bank--so your contribution will be 'unsullied.' :) So don't feel like you have to put in more when they prompt you for that on the donation page.
My initial goal will be met if 9 more people beside myself donate a penny for every hundredth of a mile I run ($26.20). However, any donations are greatly appreciated. There are many worthy charities out there, so I understand if you do not choose to donate here.
Both of my brothers, my cousin Jane & her husband Mike, and I will all be running the marathon. If you want to come cheer us on, let me know! :)
