The origin of Wells of Life is an interesting and compelling story about one man who knew firsthand what it was like to grow up without clean, running water. His memories of early childhood walking to a water well with his Mother in Wexford Ireland, truly set the stage in later years for the creation of Wells of Life. Nick Jordan is this man whose life mission is to bring clean water and hope to the villagers of Uganda. Here’s the rest of the story…
We believe clean drinking water is a basic human right for all people. We view the lack of water as the taproot of poverty in the developing world. By providing water to communities, we have seen a measurable step towards sustainable living, a decrease in water-borne illness, a 50% decrease in infant mortality, and the opportunity of schooling for children, especially girls and women.
Equally important is providing an opportunity for our local families to draw closer together through service. Being of service increases our empathy, humanity and appreciation for the gifts we have daily. Everyone has an opportunity to make a difference, to use their time, talent and treasures to save lives; and inspire their peers. Partnering with corporations allows everyone to play a part and promotes teamwork. This strengthens community and family bonding; and everyone becomes a champion of change!
When our local communities and school children place a “well of life” in a community in Uganda, they’re able to see photos of the villagers they are serving. And the people of Uganda are able to see that their lives matter! Giving the gift of clean water is the most measurable act of love and service anyone can provide.
We are a group of dedicated individuals committed to bringing clean, safe water to one million people in Uganda. And, we especially agree with Mother Teresa who said, “If you can’t save 100 children, save one.” We believe every life counts and we'll be an inspiration for others to take care of the remainder of the large number of people in need.
We are committed to sharing our vision, clean water for all, with as many people and groups as possible. We target our youth through school programs, individuals, families and corporations to join in a collaborative effort. Wells of Life works in association with Fields of Life, an NGO with a twenty year track record of working with developing communities in East Africa. As our partner in the drilling process, we receive the very best local knowledge and expertise in placing sustainable wells. We raise our overhead independently of our donor’s contributions through an annual fundraiser and by private donations. This allows our contributors the ability to have 100% of their donation fund the production of a well.
Because of our decade long involvement with the two NGO's on the ground in Uganda, Fields of Life and Drop in The Bucket, we chose to focus our efforts in bringing clean water to one million of the twelve million Ugandan villagers who lack this vital life source. The partnership provides us the greatest assurance that the work will be done efficiently and to the highest standards. And it assures the communities receive the follow up neede to ensure sustainability and ownership of this great gift. Ultimately, this brotherhood provides our donors with the most cost effective, well drilling operation available.
