In Kenya, high school (grades 9-12) is not free. On average, one year of boarding school costs $1,000, putting it out of reach for the vast majority of families.
KEF's has enabled thousands of these students to graduate high school and transition to higher education with 4-year boarding scholarships and Life Skills and Career Coaching seminars.
In 2020 however, Kenya's school year was cancelled due to COVID-19 and students were forced to stay home, increasing the risk of pregnancy and sexual violence for girls.
In addition, virtual learning is not an option for over 80% of Kenyans who don't have internet access.
In response, KEF is:
*Working to ensure that students can return to the classroom in 2021 when it is safe to do so
*Providing students and their schools with life-saving Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) like masks, hand sanitizer and soap
*Providing over 20,000 young girls with sanitary pads
*Distributing more than 25,000 printed KEF Workbooks that contain a year's-worth of curriculum and exams by grade level
