Looking for a great home

Five Acres believes in giving homeless pets second chances that they otherwise would not be given at many other shelters. Bennett is one dog that probably would not have been given a second chance where he came from. This sweet boy arrived to Five Acres emaciated and heartworm positive. We spoiled him into a plump and healthy boy and he has begun his heartworm treatment. This will take a few months and he has to be kept on restricted activity throughout his treatment. Not only can Bennett not be a normal dog for a few months but this treatment can also make a dog uncomfortable for a few days after their injections. The vet essentially has to inject poison to kill the worms living inside of Bennett's heart. Heartworm treatment is also very costly and can range from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars depending on the size of the dog and severity of their condition. It is significantly less costly to give a dog heartworm preventatives than to treat a dog for heartworms. When Bennett is finished with his treatment his vet bills could be around $2,000. Your donation could not only save the life of a heartworm positive dog but also help us provide heartworm preventives for the dogs in our care.
