BENEFITING: Keep a Child Alive
ORGANIZER: Keep a Child Alive
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
I've been volunteering with Keep a Child Alive for a long time now. Each year, I've been lucky enough to participate in their Black Ball annual gala, where I've met amazing people and heard about the impact that KCA has had on their life and lives around the world. I was first introduced to the nonprofit through my friend and running buddy Monica, who has worked for KCA for several years.
Here's the main thing that you should know: 90% of children living with HIV worldwide are from sub-Saharan Africa.
That's a pretty schocking number, but it's one that KCA believes they can help to change. They work in some of the countries hardest hit by the HIV epidemic to ensure access to life-saving treatment and the comprehensive care needed for a long healthy life. Your donations will go directly toward providing not only treatment, but also nutrition, counseling, skill building, youth support groups, and even yoga and music classes to 70,000 children and families affected by HIV in Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, South Africa, and India.
That's pretty rad, and I want to support them! I hope you will too - and me, in the process, as I train for a number of races this year. My training will culminate in conquering the NYC Marathon in November 2016. I know I'll spend each step of those 26.2 miles remembering the kindness you've all brought to my life and the difference we'll be making in Africa and India. THANK YOU!
