BENEFITING: HANG TOUGH FOUNDATION INC
I started commuting my senior year of high school and that carried over into college. Sooner or later I found myself wanting to get faster and go for longer rides. Any time off of work or school was spent on my bike. I would always bike to visit my grandpa and he loved seeing my ride up on my bike for coffee. He always inspired me to chase wild dreams. When I started working at Bird Legs Bicycles I found myself surrounded by others who shared the same passion about bikes and a friend mentioned that I should do a 12 hour bike race. Next thing I knew, i signed up for the Sebring 12 hour and managed to not only break the record for my age group but to surpass my personal goal of 200, I completed 202 miles in 12 hours. I had signed up for that race hoping that my grandpa would be able to see me race- unfortunately he passed a few months before the race happened. But he’s the reason I’ve been able to push myself in such a difficult type of racing- always fly faster and farther. The race I am competing in is The Midatlantic 12/24 hour is in Washington, NC on August 20th. I will be competing in the 24 hour event- no drafting allowed. I’m drawn to riding on behalf of the Hang Tough Foundation because of my connection with the Irwin family. Having worked with Brady Irwin while his son Grayson was going through treatments, I was exposed to pain and hardship that I had never had to experience growing up. I ride for the Hang Tough Foundation because families need support and encouragement through such life altering events.
