“I remembered what it feels like to be myself again.” A patient after participating in her first yoga class after treatment.
Please support the Leah A. Davidson Fund for the Healing Arts to help us provide the integrative therapies that are used in combination with cancer treatment to treat the whole patient, mind, body and soul. These therapies place an emphasis on decreasing stress and anxiety, while improving one’s general sense of well-being. Because of the support of friends like you, the Karmanos Cancer Institute continues to offer a variety of integrative therapies including art therapy, music therapy, massage therapy, Reiki and yoga.
Leah A. Davidson passed away from non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma after an 11-year battle. While going through treatment, Leah discovered the healing benefits of supplementing her treatments with meditation, Reiki, massage, yoga and tai chi. Recognizing how these techniques improved her health, Leah worked to develop the Healing Arts Program at Karmanos making these practices available for all cancer patients. The program now serves more than 1,000 patients each year.
