Laurie Harris wrote -Thanks for joining the Virgin Pulse Global Challenge and for supporting Kantar’s Brighter Futures Program for Unicef with your fundraising. This event is a great way to empower your overall health and lifestyle, one step at a time! Together, we can have some fun, improve your sense of wellbeing, and help children in the programs supported by Brighter Futures. Unicef - Keeping children safe For 70 years Unicef has been there for children in danger. Unicef was created in 1946 to help protect children after World War 2, and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child is the basis of their work. Today they are still helping children in some of the world’s most dangerous places. With support from people all over the world, Unicef has saved millions of children’s lives, ensuring more of the world’s children are vaccinated, educated and protected than any other organization. They have done more to influence laws and policies to help protect children than anyone else. Kantar’s fundraising helps Unicef to make a real difference in protecting vulnerable children across four programs. Bangladesh In Bangladesh, almost one million children aged between 10 – 14 are forced to work, often in hazardous conditions, to support their families. Kantar’s fundraising helps provide 3,000 children annually with the support they need to allow them to go to school instead of work. Malawi In Malawi, over one million children have been orphaned and made vulnerable due to the HIV and AIDS pandemic. Kantar fundraising ensures 3,500 vulnerable children have access to psychosocial support through the creation of 50 community centers known as Children’s Corners. Bolivia In Bolivia, almost 3.5 million children and adolescents are victims of violence, including psychological abuse and physical harm. Kantar funds contribute to the programs which protect children against exploitation by improving their legislative rights and creating special support units for victims. Mauritania Globally, pneumonia and diarrhea are the two leading killers of children under five. Together, they result in the loss of two million young lives each year. Kantar fundraising goes towards a vaccination program in Mauritania. The money that you raise will make a significant difference to vulnerable children around the world, so please set your target high. £147 ($184) could buy a Unicef School-in-a-Box, which provides essential resources to enable 40 children in Bangladesh to continue their education. Materials for an entire classroom are packed into a large portable case, including a solar/wind-up radio and even an inflatable globe for geography lessons. Just £20 ($25) could buy a nutritious meal for more than 70 children at a Children’s Corner in Malawi.
