Jogging for Guilia 5K Run/Walk
Organized by: Lisa Hindley
Lisa and Dan Hindley gave birth to their stillborn daughter, Guilia, on February 15, 2014. Lisa was 32 weeks along, and they, along with their 3 year old son, Shane, and other family members and friends, were not expecting the outcome they received when they visited the hospital that day for a routine matter. Guilia had passed. She had been her normal, active self, waking her mother up that morning by moving all around. But, sometime throughout the day, she had stopped. They only thought she had maybe taken a nap, or was running out of room. Lisa felt it was important to go check on Guilia, all the while thinking she and Dan would be back in enough time to put Shane to bed. Sadly, this is not what happened.
From the moment the doctors delivered the news to Dan and Lisa, all the way up to present day, the staff at Virtua Hospital has been beyond supportive, sympathetic, and even empathetic. Nurses, doctors, and even workers in the hospitality department were checking in, and doing whatever was necessary to bring some kind of comfort to them. They were even able to make contact with a family that went through this terrible tragedy, almost exactly a year prior.
Virtua has many resources available to the families that have experienced infant loss. Support groups, one on one visits with counselors, and an Angel Garden. The Angel Garden, is a beautiful place to visit. It is located on the grounds of the hospital, but tucked away to provide peace and serenity to those that visit. This location was a dream and a vision that one woman had. Ann Coyle. She wanted families to have a place to stop by and reflect, when they felt a need to be close to their Angel Baby. It is a beautifully landscaped area, with a sprawling water wall, adorned with square, little plaques, each bearing an infant's name. Along side of this water wall, is a statue of an angel, cradling an infant. This place has brought so much peace to families, but they are running out of room. An expansion is necessary.
The Angel Garden is funded solely on donations and fundraising. So, Dan and Lisa, have decided to help raise the money needed for this expansion. Their goal, is to allow other families, to feel the same kind of comfort, peace, and sympathy, that they are feeling through their own loss.
