A Million Times, THANK YOU!

40 runners. 230 miles. 8 days. 1 ultra marathon. 1 collective purpose. I’m an athlete by nature and a humanitarian by heart. My personal mantra is to inspire through connecting, community and movement. So how do you combine all three? You sign up for a 230-mile adventure ultra-marathon. A coast-to-coast run through an entire country, for a charitable cause. If my legs can create movement, they can certainly support one.
WORK (formerly known as Team Tassy) is a non-profit organization dedicated to accompanying Haitian families in Menelas out of poverty through good, dignified jobs. Menelas is a community on the border of Port-au-Prince that has become a place of refuge. Families have moved here to escape the violence of Cite Soleil, to rebuild in the aftermath of the 2010 earthquake, and to seek opportunities for work in the community landfill. Here, families rely on the waste collection as a primary source of income and often face the difficult choice of involving children in this work in order to ensure the security and well-being of the family. This is where Work steps in to address the issue of undignified child labor. We lead the efforts to provide services to some 300 Haitian children with access to medical care, education, safety workshops and job training for dignified work placement in their future.
This adventure will challenge my physical, emotional and mental abilities. I'll see things that I'm not used to seeing. I'll feel things that, physically and emotionally, I'm not used to feeling. How deep can I dig? How much can I give? How far can I push? What can I learn? I'm capable of making a small difference in a big world, as my 2013 + 2014 Boston Marathon experiences have taught me, so I'll do it by spreading love, supporting a movement, inspiring you to help another or initiate a healthy change or challenge in self, all while using my own two feet. Thank you for being here and for your support of myself and Work. LET'S DO THIS THING!
