Education for Jeremy's Girls
Organized by: Josh Visser
I first met Jeremy Victor in October 2009, when a mutual friend hired him on my behalf for a film shoot in north India. Within hours of my arrival in India we were pals – and that first journey together was the beginning of an amazing friendship. Over the next 6 years we traveled all over India together, meeting amazing people and capturing their stories with a lens.
Ours was a friendship that transcended time, distance, and culture. He was so much more than a camera man – a trusted advisor, translator, negotiator and a hundred other things...but above all he was my friend and my brother.
On Easter Sunday, 2015, Jeremy died unexpectedly of a heart attack. And I lost one of my dearest friends. He was only 39.
Jeremy was a dedicated husband to his wife Beulah, and a loving dad to daughters Hannah (age 10) and Mercy (age 7). His sudden death has left his family devastated.
Jeremy dedicated his life to helping others. And he held a special place in his heart for the neglected and downtrodden - especially women and children. He co-founded an organization that raises awareness of the plight of victims of abuse, and seeks to protect the powerless.
Now his own family faces an uphill battle they never dreamed of: life without their husband, father, provider, and protector.
Today, I'm asking you to do for Jeremy's girls what he has done for so many others. Lend a hand. Love them. Lift them up in their time of need.
My dream is to cover the cost of education for Hannah (age 10) and Mercy (age 7) for the next 5 years. And that's going to require $17,000.
Here's my reasoning behind that figure: School costs for Hannah and Mercy average around $2,600 per year. Round it up to $3,000 to cover other important things, like transportation, uniforms, and after-school daycare. $3,000/year x 5 years = $15,000. Bump it up one more time to $17,000 to cover an overdue payment and account for the as-yet-unknown rise in tuition rates in the coming years.
Like every dad, Jeremy wanted the best for his daughters. This is one small way we can help carry on that dream for him.
I honestly have no idea what to expect from this campaign. Maybe $17,000 is an impossible target. But maybe it's not, and I'm hoping that with your help - and your network of friends - we can EXCEED that goal! After all, 5 years of education only represents about half of the total schooling still awaiting these two precious girls. But it's a worthy start!
All money raised through this campaign will be administered by me and deposited directly into Beulah's bank account in annual installments. Once deposited, she will retain 100% control of all funds.
The last thing Jeremy posted on his Facebook page, just hours before his death on Easter morning, 2015, were these words from I Corinthians 15:55: “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting? He is risen!”
Well Jeremy, for those of us who knew you, your death still stings. A healthy 39-year-old father of two beautiful young girls isn’t supposed to drop dead of a heart attack. But in a way, you prepared us for this. Your parting words remind us that this sting is only temporary, and that earth holds no sorrow that heaven can’t heal. So those of us left here missing you will hold your last words in our hearts until we see you again. And until that day comes, we will take care of those most precious to you.
Rest in peace, brother. We've got this.
