BENEFITING: BAY AREA WOMENS SPORTS INITIATIVE INC
EVENT DATE: Oct 18, 2015
As I launched my youngest to college this fall, I wanted to do something for my community, for kids who have a tougher road to their future.
I was SO inspired this summer by the athletes of the Women's World Cup, by Becky Hammon's hiring as a new coach of the Spurs, by Serena Williams and her Grand Slam attempt, and by the athlete leaders that lead our BAWSI Programs that I decided to do something HARD. I decided that I would train for and run the Nike Women's Half Marathon on October 18! So, in an attempt to inspire others as I have been inspired - I will run the 13.1 miles of the Nike Women's Half Marathon for the girls of the BAWSI Girls program and the kids of the BAWSI Rollers program. These girls go to school in some tough neighborhoods with some challenges that my kids have never had to face. They LOVE to put on their BAWSI Girls shirt and have a rip-roaring good time playing on the one afternoon after school that the playground is THEIRS alone. They get to learn about teamwork, supporting each other, respecting yourself and trying your hardest - all while being guided in these lessons by some wonderful female collegiate athletes! If you'd like to learn more about BAWSI, ask me or check out www.BAWSI.org. We'd love to bring this amazing program to more schools. If you'd like to help me run for BAWSI - just go ahead and fund me! If you'd rather send a check directly to BAWSI, that's fine too! "Ooh, I feel so good, like I knew I would, ooh I feel so good!" -Brandi
