Hello, Hello and thank you for stopping by. My name is Janine and I have Factor V Leiden. I would love to say that it's been a breeze, but there is nothing easy about the dozens of blood clots and coumadin intake.

I have struggled with blood clots and DVTs since December 2006 when I had my oldest son. Two days after delivery, I couldn't walk and my legs were blue/purple. The first ER trip, I was told that i pulled a muscle during delivery and that I was "fine." After another 24 hours, I went back to the ER to get an ultrasound.

I had 15 blood clots in my left leg including three massive DVTs.

I had to spend nearly a month in the hospital where doctors couldn't tell me that I was "Going to make it." They smiled and gave me shots of lovenox until my coumadin levels got up to the proper INR. I even spent my son's first Christmas unable to walk, unable to sit around the Christmas tree, unable to just love on my precious newborn.

The next decade proved to be tough. DVTs constantly appeared when my INR dipped or during the early stages of pregnancies. I lost several angels and I have had three beautiful children. My miracles.

FVL is tough but I have to say, I think i'm a lot tougher.

I am doing this walk for my son, Tristan, who also has FVL with no complications.

I am also doing this walk for my older cousin, Jennifer Dale, who passed away due to medical complications including a blood clot.

DVTs can happen to anyone at any age. It's important to know the warning signs and make people aware. If that means that I'm going to walk while currently having DVTs in my legs and right arm....so be it.

It's time for a cure!

Thank you for your interest in Walk to Stop the Clot Los Angeles, a fun event to support those who have suffered from, or have been affected by, blood clots and clotting disorders. Your participation will help us to raise funds and awareness about the risks, signs and symptoms of blood clots.

This event is free and open to the public - but of course we encourage donations! Donations from you and your donors will be used immediately to advance the prevention, early diagnosis and successful treatment of life-threatening blood clots.

Blood clots (often called DVT - Deep Vein Thrombosis and PE - Pulmonary Embolism) and clot-provoked strokes are very serious medical conditions. The Surgeon General estimates that blood clots affect as many as 600,000 Americans, resulting in 100,000 deaths each year. More fatalities are caused by blood clots each year than breast cancer, AIDS, and auto accidents combined!  In fact, blood clots are also the number one cause of preventable hospital deaths.

There is cause for serious concern, but there is also good news. Many blood clots can be prevented by understanding the risk factors, signs and symptoms. Your generosity and participation helps the NBCA get the message out  that together, we are impacting patients and saving lives.
