My brother-in-law, David Galindo, was diagnosed in mid-April 2016 with a rare form of cancer called Rhabdomyosarcoma or RMS. RMS is a fast-growing cancer which, in David's case, has not only attacked his leg, but also, has spread to his lymph nodes.
An athlete & runner when he was younger, David was involved in a serious accident while in college and wasn't able to run for a long time. My husband Sean & I had the pleasure of being in San Francisco when David and my sister Diane ran their first outdoor 5K race at the San Francisco Marathon in 2014. We both remember how excited David was after he finished the race saying that one day he too wanted to run a marathon.
So, when Sean and I found out about David's diagnosis, the first thing we thought about was what we could possibly do to help. As avid runners (having completed dozens of marathons and ultramarathons), we knew right away that we could raise money in David's honor by running the largest marathon in the world, the New York City Marathon. All money donated to the James Blake Foundation on David's behalf goes towards early detection cancer research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Early detection is critical in the fight against cancer and the prevention of it spreading.
Please show your support for David as he begins his first round of chemotherapy treatments by donating to our fundraiser. Thank you and God bless.
