Thanks for taking the time to visit this page and to learn more about what I plan to do for the 2016 New York Marathon. I am running this race as part of the James Blake Foundation which is focused on early detection cancer research in partnership with Memorial Sloan-Kettering. As an avid runner and tennis player, this charity and event go hand-in-hand and also hit a personal note with me. I will be running the marathon under the name "Jill Stewart" because she's one of the kindest, tennis-loving, and just a good-natured human being / mom / wife out there. She is battling her own personal marathon with cancer as is her family.
I have done a few marathons before and to be honest, I was getting pretty jaded from them. It's a difficult process to train, hydrate, eat, ice, eat ice cream, walk funny, always arrive somewhere sweatier than you want, and so on, but it's not even close to what some people have been through with cancer. Signing up for this race and rededicating myself to 26.2 miles is less about me and more about what it represents. A donation (no matter how small!) would mean so much to me. Thanks for visiting.
P.S. Two others that I have had the pleasure of knowing who we have lost to cancer are Cindy Hicks and Douglas Millett. This is also for them.
