BENEFITING: International Rescue Committee
ORGANIZER: International Rescue Committee
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
Every day when I read the news, I’m confronted with image after image of thousands of families traveling great distances and going to great lengths in search of a better future. In reflecting upon the hundreds of steps and strides they have to take in order to escape from oppressive regimes, I have decided to run the NYC marathon on November 6th as a way of honoring their journey symbolically. As a practical means to also help these families, I will be raising money for the (IRC) International Rescue Committee, which responds to the world's worst humanitarian crises.
This charity is especially dear to me as I've witnessed firsthand the stories and struggles of people displaced from their lands and often trapped solely based on where they were born. I can’t help but be reminded of the journey my own great grandparents took. I feel so lucky that they were able to migrate successfully to a place that has afforded me and my family the opportunities we’ve been so fortunate to take advantage of. For this reason, I feel it's my duty to do something for these families who haven’t been as fortunate.
Aside from this, I am also partaking in this journey to push beyond my own boundaries and to accomplish something I’d previously never dreamed of doing. The only way I can do this is with YOUR collaboration and support!
