The Fit2College Project
Organized by: David Gesualdi
As teachers, we work to set our students up for lifetimes of success by making sure they're college- and career-ready. But health—one of the most important parts of a successful, fulfilling life—doesn't usually come into that conversation.
My program, the Fit2College Project, is changing that. Through the Fit2College Project, kids build healthy exercise habits while earning money toward college—and it's all personalized to their individual needs and goals.
Here's how it works:
- I work with each student in my P.E. class at The Walker Jones Education Campus in Washington, D.C. to set individualized fitness goals based on the [organization]'s recommendation of 60 minutes of vigorous exercise per day.
- Each student then receives a fitness tracker, which constantly monitors their movement. Students have access to their own data at all times.
- Students meet with me during office hours to discuss their progress toward their goals.
- When students meet their fitness goals for the week, they receive money toward their college tuition. That money is set aside for college funding until students are college-aged.
Please help me help my students reach their goals of lifelong health and a college education!
