BENEFITING: WEST VIRGINIA COALITION TO END HOMELESSNESS INC
The West Virginia Coalition to End Homelessness, Inc. is a non-profit in West Virginia that has been ending homelessness for over a decade. Since 2013, we have been providing an innovative program of street outreach to find people experiencing homelessness and either referring them to existing resources, or providing our own form of "rapid re-housing" which is a fast, effective way to place people who are homeless from the streets, woods, or living outdoors immediately into an apartment, paying the rental subsidy, and immediately beginning case management so they will eventually be stabilized and able to pay their own rent. This has the effect of ending homelessness quickly, and providing a housing resource for homeless people in very rural areas where no shelter or other resource exists. We’ve made street outreach contacts with over 396 people, and have housed over 164 people, with 97% of them remaining in housing. We need more money to keep the program flexible, however, and take it to scale. We want more families, children, veterans, and persons who are the greatest risk of dying on the street placed into housing for good. We are committed to making sure homelessness ends in West Virginia, one person at a time.
